Matt Gulotta’s career in aviation began well before his career in law, and he earned a Bachelor of Commercial Aviation from Delta State University and worked as a flight instructor, teaching student and certificated pilots in single-engine and multi-engine aircraft. He then flew as an airline first officer and captain, and during this period, served as a simulator instructor and check airman on the Saab SF-340 and Canadair Regional Jet. He later briefly flew the Boeing 717.
After leaving the cockpit during an industry downturn, Mr. Gulotta went to law school. His first job out of law school was as an associate attorney, where he worked on legal matters defending airlines and airports. That early experience put his aviation background to immediate use, connecting his knowledge of flight operations and training to the legal and regulatory issues airlines and airports face.
Since then, Matt has built a broader legal career. He is the owner of The Gulotta Firm, PLLC, where he has practiced in many general practice areas, including employment law, civil litigation, criminal law, administrative law, family law, local government law, and tort litigation. He has also served as an adjunct professor since 2012, teaching aviation and aerospace law to bachelor’s and master’s students. As an adjunct, he has also taught transportation legislation, constitutional law, and business law. Mr. Gulotta holds a Juris Doctor, a Master of Laws, a Master of Business Administration, and a Doctor of Education, in addition to his original degree in commercial aviation.
With that background, Mr. Gulotta’s practice is well positioned to handle a range of aviation-related legal matters. These include FAA enforcement actions and certificate proceedings, as well as appeals before the NTSB. His work also extends to advising aviation businesses on regulatory compliance, reviewing aviation-related contracts and agreements, and addressing a variety of other regulatory and administrative issues affecting aviation businesses, pilots, mechanics, flight instructors, and other aviation professionals.
